Il libro di questo mese mi ha letteralmente cambiato la vita mi ha spronato a credere nelle mie capacità, a non arrendermi, a non avere paura di diventare donna visto l’incombenza dei 30 anni, donna in ambito lavorativo ma anche e soprattutto dal punto di vista personale.
This month’s book has literally changed my life I was prodded to believe in my abilities, not to give up, to not be afraid of becoming women 30 years are coming, women at work but also and above all from the personal point of view.
L’autrice è l’attuale direttore operativo di Facebook, nominata dal Times una tra le 100 persone più influenti al mondo. In questo libro approfondisce le ragioni del mancato progresso delle donne verso ruoli di leadership, ne spiega le cause di fondo e offre soluzioni semplici e convincenti per aiutarle a realizzare pienamente il loro potenziale. Descrive, avvalendosi anche di dati statistici e studi scientifici, i passi necessari per riuscire a conciliare il successo professionale e la realizzazione personale e dimostra come anche gli uomini abbiano da guadagnare nel supportare le donne al lavoro e a casa.

La lettura di questo libro è arrivata nel momento più adatto della mia carriera professionale, mi è stato proposto un ruolo che mi allontana da tutte le attività marketing che mi piaceva svolgere, per un lavoro più analitico e di supporto a un nuovo mercato di riferimento. Ero scontenta ma allo stesso tempo orgogliosa dell’opinione che i miei colleghi vecchi e nuovi avessero e hanno di me e mi sono resa conto che cambiare non era un male, perché forse sei meno motivato ad investire su di te quando ti ritrovi a seguire per anni le stesse attività.
Reading this book has arrived at a time more suitable to my professional career, I was offered a role that I away from all marketing activities that I used to play, for a more analytical work and support to a new market. I was annoyed but at the same time proud of opinion that my colleagues old and new had and have me and I realized that change was not a bad thing, because maybe you’re less motivated to invest about yourself when you find yourself follow the same tasks for years.
Mi è stato di vera ispirazione il discorso che l’autrice ha fatto nel 2011 durante la cerimonia per le lauree di una scuola femminile di arti liberali di New York:

“Voi siete la promessa per un mondo più equo. La mia speranza, per tutte voi che siete qui è che dopo aver superato questa fase, dopo aver ottenuto il diploma, dopo essere uscite stasera per darvi alla pazza gioia, voi vi facciate avanti con decisione. Troverete qualcosa che amerete fare e lo farete con gusto. Trovate la carriera giusta per voi e arriverete ai vertici. Stasera, scendendo da questo palco, inizierà la vostra vita da persone adulte. Cominciate puntando in alto. Provate e provateci con decisione. Come tutti qui, ho grandi speranze per le allieve di questa classe di laurea. Spero che troverete il vero significato, l’appagamento e la passione nella vita. Spero che supererete i momenti difficili uscendone con maggiore forza e risolutezza. I was truly inspired by the speech that she did in 2011 during the ceremony for master’s degrees to a women’s liberal arts school in New York:

“You are the promise for a fairer world. My hope for all of you being here is that after this phase, after graduating, having exits tonight to give you the mad joy, you do forward decisively. You will find something you love to do and you do so with gusto. Find the right career for you and you will arrive at the top. Tonight, going from this stage, begin your life by adults. Start pointing upward. Try and try. Like everyone here, I have high hopes for the students of this class. I hope that you will find the true meaning, contentment and passion in life. I hope that you will pass the difficult times and emerged with greater strength and decisiveness. I hope you find the balance you need, whatever it is, wide-eyed. And I hope that you have the ambition to get ahead in your career and to rule the world. Because the world needs to be changed by you. Women all over the world rely on you. So please, ask yourself: what would I do if I had no fear? Then go do it”

Dopo aver letto queste parole mi sono resa conto che ero stata fortunata a ricevere questa opportunità perché il fatto che mi allontanava da quello che effettivamente voglio fare nella vita, cioè occuparmi di Marketing & Communication, aveva risvegliato in me la determinazione di raggiungere i miei obiettivi professionali, che ha caratterizzato da sempre le mie scelte di studi scolastici e universitari. Non avrò paura, oserò e non mi farò intimidire da nessuna persona o circostanza che bloccherà il mio percorso.
After reading these words, I realized that I had been fortunate to get this opportunity because the fact that I walked away from what you actually want to do in life, dealing with Marketing & Communication, had awakened me the determination to achieve my professional goals, which has always characterized my choices of school and university studies. Do not be afraid, I will not dare and intimidate any person or circumstance that will block my path.
Per questo ho deciso di aggiornarmi ulteriormente completando i miei studi con un master part time in Strategic Marketing Management perché bisogna ogni tanto uscire dal proprio mondo lavorativo e confrontarsi con gli altri per capire come migliorarsi e non rimanere ancorati alle proprie convinzioni.
That’s why I decided to update further completing my studies with a part-time master in Strategic Marketing Management because you have to occasionally get out of the business world and confront others figuring out how to improve and do not remain anchored to their beliefs.
Ho trovato veramente interessanti oltre il capitolo del discorso anche i capitoli “Cerca la tua verità ed esprimila”, “Non porre limiti inutili alle tue scelte” e “Fa del tuo partner un vero compagno” e trovo che soprattutto questo capitolo potrà essere di aiuto per tante donne, io mi ritengo fortunata il mio compagno, ormai da 14 anni, non mi ha mai ostacolata nonostante le mie scelte di studio mi hanno allontanata fisicamente dal nostro rapporto per 5 anni, lui ha sempre e continua a credere nelle mie capacità, sa che il mio successo è anche il suo successo senza il cui supporto non sarebbe mai arrivato. Entrambi ambiamo ad avere in un futuro una famiglia e già da ora lavoriamo insieme per la parità nei compiti domestici, che può sembrare banale ma è il privo vero grande supporto che serve per poter portare avanti successi personali e professionali, il mito della donna che sa far tutto non ha senso, la collaborazione è la soluzione vincente.
I found really interesting over the chapter of the speech also the chapters “Find your truth and express it”, “Do not place unnecessary limits to your choices” and “Does your partner a true companion” and I find that this chapter will be of help to so many women, I feel lucky my buddy, from 14 years now, he has never blocked me, despite my choices of study have physically moved away from our relationship for 5 years. He has always and continues to believe in my abilities, knows that my success is also his success without whose support would never arrived. Both we strive to have in the future a family and now we are working together for equality in domestic tasks, which may seem trivial but is lacking true great support you need in order to pursue personal and professional achievements, the myth of the woman who knows how to do everything does not make sense, collaboration is the winning solution.

“L’urlo e il furore” di William Faulkner “The Sound and the Fury” by William Faulkner

Oggi vi parlo di un romanzo che è stato non poco difficile da leggere per la struttura complessa della narrazione e che non è riuscito a coinvolgermi nella sua storia fino in fondo.
Today I speak of a book that was more than a little difficult to read for the complex structure of the narrative and failed to involve me in its story all the way through.
L’urlo e il furore di William Faulkner è ambientato nella contea immaginaria di Yoknapatawpha ed è suddiviso in quattro parti. Protagonista del romanzo è una decadente famiglia bianca del sud degli Stati Uniti, alle soglie della grande crisi che avrebbe sconvolto e ridotto in pezzi l’american dream. La madre Caroline è sposata a Jason Compson III; i coniugi Compson hanno quattro figli: Quentin, Candance (Caddy) Jason e Benjamin e una nipotina, figlia di Caddy, chiamata anche lei Quentin, in memoria dello zio. I capitoli del romanzo racchiudono ciascuno una giornata. Il primo capitolo tratta del 7 Aprile 1928; il secondo del 2 Giugno 1910. Il terzo il 6 Aprile del 1928; l’ultimo racconta dell’8 Aprile 1928. Per ogni capitolo cambia la voce narrante e questo cambio non è di facile intuizione, questi monologhi sono costruiti secondo una tecnica sperimentale seguiti da una quarta e conclusiva parte che ripristina i modi tradizionali del raccontare aiutando il lettore a riprendere le redini della storia. La prima è quella di Benjy Compson, il figlio ritardato mentale di 33 anni. La seconda parte si svolge 18 anni prima delle altre ed è raccontata da Quentin Compson, all’epoca studente ad Harvard, che si suicida a causa di una serie di eventi che coinvolgono la sorella Caddy. La terza parte riflette il punto di vista del loro cinico fratello: Jason, mentre la quarta è raccontata in terza persona e basata sulle impressioni di Dilsey, la serva nera più anziana tra quelli al servizio della famiglia.
The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner is set in the fictional County of Yoknapatawpha County and is divided into four parts. The novel’s protagonist is a decadent white southern family of the United States, at the threshold of the great crisis that would upset and reduced into pieces the american dream. His mother Caroline is married to Jason Compson III, the couple have 4 children: Compson Quentin, Candance (Caddy) Jason and Benjamin and a granddaughter, daughter of Caddy, also called Quentin, in memory of his uncle. The chapters of the novel contain each a day. The first chapter is of 7 April 1928; the second of the 2 June 1910. The third on 6 April 1928; the last chronicles of 8 April 1928. For each chapter the Narrator changes and this change is not easy to guess, these monologues are constructed according to an experimental technique followed by a fourth and final hand that restores the traditional ways of telling helping the reader to retake the reins of the story. The first is that of Benjy Compson, the son of mentally retarded man 33 years. The second part takes place 18 years before the others, and is narrated by Quentin Compson, when was a student at Harvard, who commits suicide due to a series of events involving his sister Caddy. The third part reflects the point of view of their cynical brother: Jason, while the fourth is told in the third person and based on impressions of black servant Dilsey, the oldest among those at the service of the family.

Nella pratica stilistica, fu considerato il rivale di Ernest Hemingway, che gli si oppose con il suo stile conciso e minimalista, che sinceramente apprezzo di più. È stato ritenuto forse l’unico vero scrittore modernista statunitense degli anni trenta che si allaccia alla tradizione sperimentale di scrittori europei quali James Joyce, Virginia Woolf e Marcel Proust. È anche noto per l’uso di strumenti espressivi innovativi: il flusso di coscienza, narrazioni elaborate da punti di vista multipli e salti temporali nella cronologia del racconto.
This book is the emblem of the style of the works of William Faulkner that are characterized by a writing full of pathos and of great psychological depth, from long periods and twisted and a meticulous care in the choice of style and language. In practical Stylistics, was considered the rival of Ernest Hemingway, who opposed his concise and minimalist style, which I really appreciate him more. Was considered to be perhaps the only true American modernist writer of the 1930s who attaches to the experimental tradition of European writers such as James Joyce, Virginia Woolf and Marcel Proust. He is also known for using innovative tools of expression: the stream-of-consciousness, elaborate narratives from multiple viewpoints and temporal jumps in the history of the story.
Per concludere non è un libro che mi sentire di consigliare da leggere sui mezzi o in viaggio perché richiede un estremo livello di attenzione per poter comprendere fino in fondo la storia e i personaggi.

Le prime luci del mattino di Fabio Volo. The first lights of the morning by Fabio Volo.

Forse con questa recensione attirerò qualche critica perchè su Fabio Volo scrittore le opinioni sono discordanti. Io invece ho letto tutti i suoi libri, ho iniziato a farlo perché mi è stato regalato per Natale “Il tempo che vorrei” mi piaciuto il suo stile, la trama a tal punto da incuriosirmi e spingermi ad acquistare tutta la bibliografia. Non nascondo che c’è stato un libro in particolare, il primo che dimostra la sua immaturità in questo campo, “Esco a fare due passi”, dove non riuscivo a capire se odiavo il personaggio e la trama o il suo modo di scrivere, se avessi letto questo come primo libro forse non avrei acquistato nessuno dei suoi libri.
Perhaps this review will draw some criticism because on Fabio Volo writer opinions are divided. I’ve read all his books, I started doing it because I was given for Christmas “The time that I would” I liked his style, the plot so much intrigue me and push me to buy the whole bibliography. Don’t hide that there was a book in particular, the first that shows his immaturity in this field, “Go out to make two steps”, where I couldn’t figure out if I hated the character and the plot or his way of writing, if I read this as first book perhaps I wouldn’t have bought any of his books.
Questo mese ho letto “Le prime luci del mattino” l’ultimo libro scritto da Fabio Volo nel 2011. Racconta la storia di Elena, una donna in carriera sposata con Paolo, con cui ha una relazione tranquilla ma monotona. L’incontro con un cliente la porta a cambiare vita e l’aiuta a riscoprire se stessa, con un finale inaspettato. Quello che mi piace di più nei suoi libri è la capacità di saper descrivere i pensieri delle donne, le emozioni e in particolare in questo libro la fa da padrone il suo lato da seduttore a mio parere alcune scene o situazioni vissute da Elena con il suo amante sono frutto di vita vissuta.
This month I read “The first light of the morning” the last book written by Fabio Volo in 2011. Tells the story of Elena, a career woman who is married to Paul, with whom he had a peaceful relationship but monotonous. An encounter with a customer changes her life and helps to rediscover herself, with an unexpected ending. What I like most in his books is the ability to describe women’s thoughts, emotions and especially in this book, in my opinion, emerges his side master seducer and some scenes or situations experienced by Elena with her lover are the fruit of his life.

This month’s book is a crime novel by Daniel Pennac “The scapegoat”. Is the first novel in the series dedicated to the cycle Malaussène, which consists of 5 other novels: The Fairy Gunmother, Write to Kill, Monsieur Malaussène, Des crétiens et des maures and Passion Fruit.
Il protagonista è Benjamin Malaussène, un ragazzo che lavora ai Grandi Magazzini di Parigi in cui avvengono degli omicidi. Il suo impiego è quello di capro espiatorio, temo che sia un ruolo alquanto diffuso nelle aziende , cioè viene pagato per farsi umiliare da un altro addetto in modo che i clienti venuti a reclamare si impietosiscano a tal punto da rinunciare al risarcimento; a causa di questo ruolo si troverà implicato in una serie di delitti che compongono la trama vera e propria.
The protagonist is Benjamin Malaussène, a guy who works the Department stores of Paris where murders take place. Its use is to scapegoat, I fear that it is a rather widespread role in companies , gets paid to get humiliate by another employee so that clients have come to reclaim it, move to the point of giving up compensation; because of this role will be involved in a series of crimes that make the plot itself.
La storia è ambientata nel quartiere parigino di Belleville, un quartiere popolato da immigrati di varie etnie, cornice viva e colorata del romanzo, mentre la dimensione temporale del romanzo, non è specificata ma si può dedurre durante la lettura che la storia si svolge negli anni ’80. Lo si può intuire dal fatto che, nel romanzo, vi è una sequenza narrativa che descrive gli avvenimenti storici accaduti nel periodo nel quale si svolge la vicenda.

You can guess from the fact that, in the novel, there is a narrative sequence that describes the historical events that took place during the period in which the story takes place.
Daniel Pennac già autore di libri per ragazzi, nel 1985, comincia la serie di romanzi dedicata a Malaussène, in seguito ad una scommessa che l’allora trentacinquenne e insegnante in un liceo parigino, fece con alcuni amici, ai quali voleva dimostrare di essere capace di scrivere un romanzo giallo, genere che in Francia vanta una lunga e nobile tradizione. Il futuro scrittore aveva scoperto i piaceri del genere giallo, durante un soggiorno in Brasile, dove gli era capitato per le mani un romanzo di Handerson D. Clarke.
Daniel Pennac author of books for children, in 1985 he started a series of books dedicated to Malaussène, for a bet with some friends and wanted to prove that he was capable of writing a crime novel. The future writer had discovered the delights of crime novel, during a stay in Brazil, where he had happened to his hands a novel of Handerson D. Clarke.

Ragazzi di vita di Pier Paolo Pasolini

Come tutti i pendolari che raggiungono il posto di lavoro con i mezzi, anche io passo il mio tempo leggendo un buon libro.
Like all commuters reach their jobs, I spend my time reading a good book.
Questo ad esempio è stato il mese di un classico della letteratura italiana “Ragazzi di vita” di Pier Paolo Pasolini. Il libro racconta la storia di un gruppo di ragazzini delle borgate romane che vivono di espedienti rasentando e spesso oltrepassando la soglia del crimine. Pasolini segue passo, passo le inconcludenti e rischiose giornate di un popolo di giovanissimi emarginati, denunciando e invidiando il loro coatto modo di vivere la vita.
For example, this was the month of an Italian classic “Ragazzi di vita”, written by Pier Paolo Pasolini. The book tells the story of a group of children of Roman working-class suburb living by one’s wits and often overshooting the threshold of crime. Pasolini follows step by step the inconclusive and risky days of a young marginalised blokes, denouncing and envying the their forced way of life.

All speeches are in Roman, so on the last pages there is a glossary of dialect and slang words used in the book.
Per chi non conoscesse Pier Paolo Pasolini è stato un noto scrittore, critico letterario, polemista, consulente editoriale ma anche sceneggiatore e regista e a Roma divenne presto un intellettuale di punta e rilievo internazionale. Nato a Bologna nel 1922, morì a Ostia nel 1975 assassinato in circostanze ancora non del tutto chiarite.
For those not familiar with Pier Paolo Pasolini, he was a well-known writer, literary critic, polemicist, editorial consultant but also writer and director and in Rome quickly became a leading intellectual and international relief. Born in Bologna in 1922, died at Ostia in 1975 killed under circumstances still not entirely clarified.
